HCI ✕ AI · Automotive UI · Storytelling
Hi there! I am Jan Henry.
I am a PhD student at Porsche AI Research.
About Me
I am Jan Henry Belz, a PhD student at the Porsche AI Research Team.
I finished my Bachelor's and Master's degree in media informatics at Ulm University, where I have been working as a research assistant for more than four years. My research interests primarily revolve around HCI, with a specific focus on the potential impact of AI on User Experience.

Stuttgart, Germany
In October 2023, I joined the Porsche AI Research Team as a PhD Student
under supervision
of Dr. Grosse-Puppendahl
and Prof. Dr. Rukzio.
Currently, I am working on the application of AI methods in the
vehicle's interior to improve the overall driving experience.

Lecturer
Ulm University
Ulm, Germany
Parallel to my job at Porsche, I started as a lecturer at Ulm University
at the Institute of Media Informatics.
Here, I am lecturing the course "Sketching with Hardware", teaching
students about rapid prototyping methods
deploying techniques such as additive and subtractive manufacturing
methods, microcontroller-programming, and
the basics of electrical engineering. Additionally, I am supervising the
institute's fabrication lab.
2019 - 2023
Research Assistant
Ulm University
Ulm, Germany
I’ve been working as a research assistant in the Human-Computer
Interaction Research Group under my supervisor Mark Colley
for four years, focusing on autonomous driving.
Education
2023
Tampere University
Tampere, Finland
Master's Thesis
Human-Technology Interaction
During spring and summer of 2023, I spent one semester abroad in
Tampere, Finland to write my maser's thesis
at the Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction (TAUCHI) under supervision of Tero Avellan and
Prof. Dr. Markku Turunen.
2021 - 2023
Ulm University
Master's
Media Informatics
In 2021, I continued my studies on HCI in the master studies of Media
Informatics, choosing most of my elective courses and projects in the
field of Human-Computer Interaction, including automotive UI, mobile
HCI, and social computing.
2017 - 2021
Ulm University
Ulm, Germany
Bachelor's
Media Informatics
In 2021, I graduated from Ulm University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Media Informatics. Having found interest in the Human-Computer
Interaction field, I directly enrolled in the master studies of Media
Informatics.
2015 - 2017
Aalen University of Applied Sciences
Aalen, Germany
Bachelor's
Internet of Things
Directly after graduating school, I enrolled in the bachelor studies of
“Internet of Things”, which was a newly founded program mixing
electrical engineering and business administration with computer science
and product design. However, since I preferred the IT and design part
over the rest of the program, I decided to switch to Media Informatics
at Ulm University after three semesters.
